Today’s temptations are super yummy chocolate cupcakes, a recipe from my mum’s old recipe book.
The cupcakes are very moist and delicious, and topped with a luscious frosting (recipe from Martha Stewart) they are a sweet treat everyone will love.
I decorated my cupcakes with a pink strawberry mousse from DrOetker and some pretty Love Heart candies.
I also decorated some of them with homemade marzipan decorations.
Perfect for Valentine’s Day!
I just love cupcakes!
Here is the recipe, enjoy!
Super moist chocolate cupcakes:
- 1/2 cup (120 g) butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (170 g) regular sugar
- 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon (35 g) pure unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 5 1/4 oz. (150 g) dark chocolate
Bring out all the ingredients.
Sift together the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder at least three times.
Put the butter and sugar into a mixing bowl and beat until fluffy.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well between each addition.
Beat until very fluffy.
Melt the chocolate and leave to cool.
Sift the flour mixture into the mixing bowl.
Then add the cream and vanilla extract, and stir with a rubber spatula until everything is well blended.
Then add the cooled chocolate…
Stir to mix.
This quantity is enough for about 14 medium sized cupcakes.
Divide the batter between the paper cases.
Bake in a 320 ˚F (160 ˚C) oven for about 25 minutes,
Chocolate glaze (recipe from Martha Stewart):
- 4 oz. (115 g) dark chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup + 1 tablespoon (200 ml) heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon corn syrup or liquid glucose
Put the chocolate and the corn syrup or liquid glucose into a bowl.
Put the cream in a separate bowl and heat it in the microwave oven.
Pour the warm cream into the bowl with the chocolate.
Set aside for a few minutes, then stir until smooth. Glaze done!
Spread out about 1-2 tablespoons on top of each cupcake.
Leave to set for a few minutes.
Or, if you can’t wait, have a bite when it’s still warm… so yummi!
After about one hour the glaze it quite set.
I decorated these with a stawberry mousse from DrOetker. I just piped it onto the glaze using a piping bag fitted with a Wiltom 1M tip.
I decorated some of them with these super cute Love Heart candies.
I also decorated some of them with some homemade marzipan decorations.
To make them you’ll need the following:
- food coloring, optional
- rolling pin
- ribbon cutter
Roll out the marzipan (this one I’ve colored pink) and press down the stamp.
Use a ribbon cutter to make a dotted line around the stamped part of the marzipan, like this:
I use a small pair of scissors to cut out the part I want to use.
There are so many kinds of stamps, so many possibilities…
It’s fun to make your own cake decorations, and so much more personal than shop bought.

I also used sugar pearls to give them that cute final touch…
