Today’s temptations are American chocolate chip cookie dough brownies – a classic brownie base topped with cookie dough, melted chocolate and chocolate chips…

The original recipe is from my American sister-in-law.


Classic brownies (the base):

  • 14 oz. (400 g) dark chocolate
  • 1 1/4 cup (280 g) butter
  • 1 3/4 cup (350 g) soft light brown sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cup (150 g) all-purpose flour

Preheat the oven to 350 ˚F (180 ˚C).

Bring out all the ingredients.

Melt the butter with half of the chocolate (7 oz./200g)

Set aside to cool slightly.

Put the eggs, sugar and flour into a large bowl.

Whisk by hand until everything is well blended.

Add the melted butter and chocolate mixture.

Stir well, then stir in the rest of the chocolate.

Pour the batter into a lined 8 x 12-inch (20 x 30 cm) baking pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes.

Leave to cool while you get on with the topping – the chocolate chip cookie dough.

Chocolate chip cookie dough:

  • 3/4 cup (170 g) butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (170 g) regular sugar
  • 2/3 cup (150 g) soft light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • just under 1 cup (100 g) very finely ground almonds
  • 3/4 cup (100 g) all-purpose flour
  • 7 oz. (200 g) mini chocolate chips

Bring out all the ingredients.

I use a mixture of flour and finely ground almonds here, but you could use finely ground almonds only, if you prefer.

Put the butter and both sugars into a mixing bowl.

Beat until fluffy.

Add the milk and vanilla extract and continute beating.

Now add the flour and very finely ground almonds.

You could use flour only (as used in the original recipe given to me by my sister-in-law), but I like to use a 50/50 mixture of flour and very finely ground almonds.

Beat until everything is well blended.

Stir in the chocolate chips.

Make sure everything is well blended.

Cookie dough done and ready!

Spread the cookie dough over the cooled brownie base, then chill for at least 3 hours.

Remove the cake from the pan by lifting the baking parchment.

Melt a little chocolate in the microwave and drizzle over the top, if you like.

Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips on top…

Cut into squares and… enjoy.
