Today’s temptation is a luscious Devil’s food cake with a fluffy frosting.
Devil’s Food Cake
- 1 1/2 cup (340 g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (125 g) cocoa powder
- 1 cup (250 ml) boiling water
- 1 cup (250 ml) sour cream or crème fraîche
- 2 2/3 cups (330 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 1/4 cups (500 g) regular sugar
- 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
Preheat the oven to 350 ˚F (180 ˚C).
Pour the boiling water into a bowl with the cocoa powder.
Add the sour cream or crème fraîche.
Stir until everything is well blended.
Put the butter and sugar into a mixing bowl and beat until fluffy.
Scrape any unmixed ingredients from the side of the bowl with a rubber spatula.
Add the eggs, one at a time.
Add the cocoa mixture and stir well.
Sift the flour, baking powder. baking soda and salt and add to the mixture. Stir until combined.
Add the vanilla extract.
Line and grease two 8-inch (20 cm) baking pans and dust with a little flour.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool.
Place one of the cakes upside-down onto a cake stand or plate. Carefully remove the baking parchment.

Spread a thick layer of frosting over the first cake, place the second cake on top and spread more frosting over the top and sides.
