“Satay sauce” is originally from Indonesia, but it has become a tradition in Holland. In Holland we like to have it with chicken and french fries or rice.

It’s very easy to make and very easy to eat..

Satay Sauce (by my brother Bjørn Rune)

  • 4-5 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3-4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3-4 teaspoons sambal oelek

Put all the ingredients into a saucepan and place on the heat. Stir until everything is well blended and the mixture has thickened.

Don’t add all the sambal oelek at once, I like the satay sauce to be quite hot so adjust the spice to your taste.

We like to drizzle the sauce over grilled chicken skewers and serve it with french fries, rice or nasi.

If you like peanuts you’ll definitely like this. The flavors bring out childhood memories for me, I grew up eating satay sauce and I absolutely love it.

  1. Åhh, hjemlengsel! Kjempeflott at du deler denne oppskriften med oss! Gleder meg til å se nasi-oppskriften! Den vil jeg virkelig prøve! 😀

  2. Ååå, tusen takk for flott oppskrift! Endelig!

  5. I am from Asia and I didn’t know that Satay Sauce is now popular in Netherlands! Amazed me that you can simply remake it using peanut butter, milk, soya sauce and sambal! Wow! 🙂

  6. Kjempe stas at du blogger om mat forutenom bakst. Jeg ønsker gjerne flere oppskrifter om hverdagsmat 🙂

  10. I’m from Indonesia and very proud of your satay sauce. In Indonesia, you have to grind the peanuts before cook in pot. But I’m proud of you, Manuella! Kiss kiss from Indonesia!
