Hello everyone, I hope you are all well!
This recipe was sent to me from my penpal in Australia, it is originally from a Donna Hay baking book… so good!
Enjoy!
Chocolate Caramel Slice
The base:
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50 g) desiccated coconut
- 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 g) melted butter
Put the flour, coconut, brown sugar and melted butter into a bowl and stir to mix.
Press the mixture evenly into a lined 8 x 12-inch (20 x 30 cm) baking pan.
Bake in a 350˚F (180˚C) oven for about 15-18 minutes.
The caramel
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) golden sirup
- 1/2 cup (125 g) melted butter
- 2 cans (2 x 400 g) sweetened condensed milk
Open the two cans of sweetened condensed milk.
Pour the milk into a saucepan with the melted butter and golden syrup.
Place the pan on a medium heat and stir regularly for about 7 minutes.
After 7 minutes, spread the caramel evenly over the base.
Bake for another 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Done!
Leave to cool, then store in the fridge until completely cold.
Chocolate topping
- 6 1/2 oz. (185 g) dark chocolate
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Melt the chocolate with the oil using a bain marie, then leave to cool.
Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the cooled caramel base.
Place in the fridge until set.
Cut into squares or slices and serve!
That’s it for today, I hope you are tempted to try making these treats from Australia.
Hugs from me to you.
