Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. Today I’ll continue my efforts to tempt you with desserts and other sweet treats for Valentine’s Day. I guess most of you love chocolate just like me, and today’s cake tastes absolutely amazing.
The filling consists of a delicious homemade caramel sauce, and the top and sides of the cake are covered with a luscious chocolate frosting. Top it all off with a romantic look, cute love hearts and colorful sprinkles.
I don’t know about you, but I’m in Love, both with my husband and with this cake.
You should try making it too, it’s said that the way to a person’s heart goes through the stomach…
Here is the recipe, enjoy.
The chocolate cakes:
- 2 cups (450 g) regular sugar
- 1 3/4 cup (225 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup (90 g) cocoa powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 cup (225 ml) sour cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup + 1 tablespoon (250 ml) strong coffee
Preheat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C).
Spray the insides of two 8-inch (20 cm) pans with non-stick baking spray, line the bases with baking parchment and spray again.
Put the sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder into a mixing bowl.
Stir to mix, then add the eggs, oil, sour cream, vanilla and coffee. Mix for 2 more minutes.
Divide the batter between the two pans and bake in the middle of the oven for about 30-35 minutes.
Leave to cool completely.
Make the Omygosh caramel sauce as described here, leave to set slightly before pouring half of it onto one of the cakes.
Place the other cake on top.
Spread the Dark Chocolate Cheese Frosting over the top and sides of the cake. You can find the recipe here.
I like to decorate with these colorful Conversation Hearts, after all, Valentine’s Day is coming up.
